Why not a Java Live CD distribution?

This is a thing that I've in my mind from a long time... the live Linux CD distributions (such as Knoppix) are really interesting, and in conjunction with development environments (such as the last Monoppix) they are really an enormous success.

My question is this: do you know if there are out some Linux Live CD with the Java Development Environment? I think that having the JDK on a Live Linux CD could be really useful...

Maybe I could answer myself: a CD like this could not be distributed due to the Sun's terms of redistribution? Or am I wrong?

I'd like to know something about...

Stefano Demiliani asks a question that many of us find ourselves asking from time to time; "Why don't they make a 'live' distribution of my favorite Linux distro?" Even though there are a number of Linux distributions that are available out there, it would be cool to have your pick of the litter so to speak....

It could be a question of licensing. Sun has some very rigorous rules on how to distribute Java.

Despite the licensing, it would be possible
to make a kit by which the end-user can create
a LiveCD from the official JDK distribution.

I wanted to do this with webapps, but
these need writeable directories. Can I RAM
disk provide enough?

Live CD uses hard disk spaces (or at least RAM disks) to write the users data (Knoppix for example can use the hard disk space to write your home directories or other data).
Miguel, are you planning to create a Java Live CD? If yes, keep us informed please...

We dont have to redistribute it. Just create one and use it urself. And let other create live cds on their own. So no licensing problem.
